Thekla Friedländer

Thekla Friedländer (born April 6, 1849 in Brieg , Silesia , † after 1898) was a German social reformer .

From 1898 Friedländer worked in Berlin mainly in prisoner welfare. She worked closely with Gustav von Schmoller from the Verein für Socialpolitik . Friedländer tried to reform the Prussian penal system throughout her life ; Above all, she wanted to improve the conditions in women's prisons. Through their commitment u. a. the women's prison Barnimstrasse modernized.

Friedländer spread her ideas mainly through lectures, in which she was also supported by the Lyceum Club Berlin , of which she later became a member. Thanks to the personal support of the Queen of Romania, Elisabeth zu Wied , she was able to set up a translation department through this club to translate specialist works.
