Theo Altenberg

Theo Altenberg (* 1952 in Mönchengladbach ) is a German artist, filmmaker and performer.

Life

After studying at the Werkkunstschule Krefeld, he lived from 1973 to 1990 in Otto Muehl's commune at Friedrichshof , where he helped to shape the organization of action analysis and provided artistic support as a photographer and filmmaker. His photographs show alternative, social and art history as well as everyday life in the municipality. The subject of his presentation are, among others, Günter Brus , Joseph Beuys and Hermann Nitsch . He was a co-founder of the Friedrichshof art office , publisher of AA-Nachrichten, a magazine for alternative lifestyle, and was involved as an actor in several community film projects. In 1986 he initiated the El Cabrito project on the island of La Gomera . Numerous exhibition projects deal with the processing of the social experiment at Friedrichshof. Altenberg now lives in Berlin and is artistically active in various media.
