Theo Austermühle

Theobald Austermühle (born January 28, 1936 ) is a German sports scientist and university professor .

Life

Austermühle received his doctorate in 1971 from the Martin Luther University (MLU) Halle-Wittenberg, in 1982 he submitted his doctorate B in Halle on the subject of “On the development of physical culture and sport in the way of life of students: a sociological-theoretical contribution to the design of the structure of conditions in Student sport in the GDR ”. He then held a professorship for sports science at the MLU with a focus on sports sociology and sports history. From 1973 to 1989 he was a member of the Scientific Advisory Board for Student Sports at the Ministry of Higher and Technical Education. From 1992 to 1998 he was director of the MLU Institute for Sports Science.

In addition to student sports, youth sports, sports and social care in juvenile detention, martial arts, the connection between performance and personality development in senior and senior athletes and sports history topics were among his research interests, including adventure tourism in the GDR, popular sports in the GDR, the History of sports science at the University of Halle-Wittenberg, “Fields of action for GDR sports in the early period 1945-1965”, “Sport at the University of Halle as a cultural contribution to urban development” and the development of combat sports.
