Theo Herrmann (psychologist)

Theo Herrmann (born May 24, 1929 in Bochum ; † July 21, 2013 in Ladenburg ) was a professor of general psychology at the University of Mannheim .

biography

From 1950 to 1954 he studied psychology at the University of Mainz. After receiving his doctorate (1956) and after an internship as a business psychologist in northern Germany, he completed his habilitation in Mainz (1963).

After being appointed full professor at the Technical University of Braunschweig (1964), he devoted himself primarily to the psychological research of parental upbringing. In 1968 he moved to the University of Marburg and in 1977 to the University of Mannheim. He has been retired since 1997.

Since the 1970s, his research has focused on the generation of linguistic utterances and their connection with thinking, spatial cognition and other cognitive processes. Herrmann has also dealt intensively with the scientific theory of the human sciences. A total of around 200 scientific publications are available from him.

In 1994 he received a teaching award from the state of Baden-Württemberg. In 1956 he received the prize of the Austrian Academy of Sciences. In 1990 he became a member of the Academia Europaea .

Theo Herrmann was President of the German Society for Psychology (DGPs) from 1970 to 1972 and its honorary member since 1998.

Theo Herrmann's estate is in the Psychology History Research Archive (PGFA) at the Distance University in Hagen.
