The Research Archive for the History of Psychology (PGFA) is a scientific institution of the Distance University in Hagen .
It is used for research, especially research into the history of psychology and its neighboring disciplines. Documents relating to the history of psychology, such as the bequests of scientifically and practically working psychologists, gifts, correspondence and other documents are archived . This includes apparatus, tests, sound documents, films and photos. The archive naturally also stores lectures, lecture notes, manuscripts and documents for association and public relations work. By recording, if possible also by digitizing, and scientifically processing these documents, the aim is to contribute to the processing of the history of German psychology - especially during the time of National Socialism and the decades after 1945. Biographical, social and political factors that played a role in the development of psychology are thus substantiated by primary sources. Some holdings complement each other through content-related correspondence with the activities of the people and through social networks (Wehrmacht psychology, career advice, research, teaching).
The archive has been gradually incorporated into the university archive since 2015 and is therefore not freely accessible. For this reason, the more frequently used documents in particular should be made available in digital form.

The archive was founded in 1998 by Helmut E. Lück . Through negotiations to stay, he received the promise to found the archive at the FernUniversität as well as funds to purchase documents. When Lück retired in 2007, his successor in office, Stefan Stürmer, took over the management of the archive.
