Theodor Emil Schmidt (born April 9, 1905 in Mannheim ; † September 27, 1982 ) was a German engineer and university professor who made a name for himself in the field of refrigeration technology in particular .

Life

Theodor Emil Schmidt received his doctorate in 1931 under Rudolf Plank with a thesis on refrigeration machines . He completed his habilitation in 1949 with a thesis on the heat output of ribbed surfaces. In 1963 he became a full professor at the newly established chair for heat engineering at the University of Stuttgart , where he taught technical thermodynamics, heat transfer and refrigeration engineering. Schmidt was previously director of the refrigeration department at Brown, Boveri & Cie. He headed the university institute until 1973.

Theodor Emil Schmidt was a member of the German Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Association (DKV) for over 50 years . He was a member of its board from 1958 until the end of his life. He founded the DKV district associations Kurpfalz and Stuttgart. From 1966 Schmidt was deputy chairman of the DKV, from 1969 to 1972 its chairman. He worked in committees of DIN , ISO , VDI and VDMA . He was also chairman of the refrigeration technology research council , member of the executive committee of the Working Group of Industrial Research Associations (AIF) and vice-president of Commission III of the Institut International du Froid (IIF).
