Theodor Galle
Theodor Galle (baptized July 16, 1571 in Antwerp ; buried December 18, 1633 there ) was a Dutch engraver of the early Baroque era .
The son of Philipp Galle and brother of Cornelius Galle the Elder. Ä. went to Rome after an apprenticeship with his father , where he studied ancient monuments. He published the results under the title "Imagines ex antiquis marmoribus, numismatibus et gemmis expressae". He later went back to Antwerp to run a copper engraving trade there. In addition to copies by Peter Paul Rubens , he also made his own designs, which he put together under the title “Speculum illustrium virginum” and “Marienleben”.
