Theodor Heinrich Behrens

Theodor Heinrich Behrens (born January 23, 1842 in Büsum , Holstein, † January 13, 1905 ) was a German chemist.

Life

Behrens studied physics and chemistry at the University of Kiel , completed his doctorate with Gustav Karsten in 1868 with a meteorological thesis and became a private lecturer there in 1871. In 1874 he was appointed professor of mineralogy, geology and mining at the Delft Polytechnic . The following year he married the future writer Anna Behrens , a daughter of the physician Carl Conrad Theodor Litzmann, in Delft . In 1898 he became professor of microchemistry in Delft . He is considered to be the founder.

After his death Nicolaas Schoorl (1872–1942) further developed the methods he had developed.
