Theodor Ilgen

Heinrich Theodor Ilgen (born October 29, 1854 in Brotterode , † September 19, 1924 in Miltenberg ) was a German historian and archivist . From 1900 to 1921 he was in charge of the Düsseldorf State Archives .

Life

Ilgen studied history in Leipzig, Berlin and Marburg. In 1879 he received his doctorate from the University of Marburg . From 1880 he was initially employed at the Marburg State Archives before moving to the Düsseldorf State Archives in 1882 . From 1885 to 1900 he worked at the State Archives in Münster . In March 1896 Ilgen was one of the founding members of the Historical Commission for Westphalia , from 1897 to 1898 he was also a member of the commission. In October 1900 he went back to Düsseldorf to take over the management of the State Archives. In 1921 he was adopted into retirement.
