Theodor Lachner

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Theodor Lachner (born July 1, 1795 in Rain ; † May 22, 1877 in Munich ) was a German court organist and music teacher.

Lachner was the older stepbrother of Franz (1803–1890), Ignaz (1807–1895) and Vinzenz Lachner (1811–1893), all of whom were very successful band masters and composers of their time. In contrast to them, he stayed in Munich and worked as a music teacher: in 1829 in the teaching and training institute of Carl Mayer and from 1842 to 1871 at the royal educational institute and from 1845 as court organist. Occasionally he also appeared as a pianist in smaller chamber music concerts of the Philharmonic Society.
