Ignaz Lachner

Ignaz Lachner (born September 17, 1807 in Rain , † February 25, 1895 in Hanover ) was a German composer and conductor .

Life

Ignaz Lachner was born into a musical family. His father Anton was an organist , from whom he received his first lessons as a violin player. His brothers Franz and Vinzenz and his stepbrother Theodor were also composers.

After performing with applause at the age of six, he found a job at the Isartortheater in Munich at the age of 15 . In 1826 he became organist at the Reformed City Church in Vienna , then a member of the orchestra at the Hofoperntheater, in 1831 music director in Stuttgart and soon afterwards in Munich. In 1853 he became Kapellmeister in Hamburg and in 1861 Kapellmeister at the Stadttheater in Frankfurt am Main , from which position he retired in 1875.

His hometown Rain pays tribute to him with a street name, the Gebrüder Lachner Museum, which is housed in the house where he was born, and the name of the Gebrüder Lachner Middle School.

Works

Of his compositions, particularly those relating to alpine scenes (for example, The Last Window ) met with approval. He also wrote two operas , sonatas , string quartets and many songs.
