Theodor Oesten

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Theodor Oesten (born December 31, 1813 , † March 16, 1870 in Berlin ) was a German piano teacher and composer. Numerous successful songs and melodies come from him.

As a child, Oesten learned to play various wind and string instruments at the Stadtmusikus in Fürstenwalde / Spree . At the age of 19 he went to Berlin and began to study composition with Böhmer, Carl Friedrich Rungenhagen , Schneider and August Wilhelm Bach . After graduating, he worked in the German capital as a sought-after piano teacher.

In 1843 he created the Rondo Les premières violettes , which, arranged entirely in accordance with the sentimental tastes of the time, developed into an enormous success for Oesten. As a result, other pieces were created, thanks to whose simple arrangements he was in the favor of his audience for years.

Theodor Oesten died in Berlin in 1870 at the age of 56 and was buried in the Sophienfriedhof II there. The grave has not been preserved.
