Theodore Hamm (born October 14, 1825 in Herbolzheim , † July 31, 1903 in St. Paul , Minnesota ) was a German brewer and founder of the Theodore Hamm Brewing Company .

biography

Hamm emigrated to the USA with his wife Louise in 1856 and settled in St. Paul. In the 1860s, Hamm supported the brewery owner Andrew F. Keller with a loan so that he could expand his company. The brewery was taken as a security deposit. When Keller's brewery went bankrupt, it fell to Hamm. Together with his wife, Hamm continued it as Theodore Hamm Brewing Company . The annual output at that time was around 500 barrels of beer.

The brewery grew continuously under Hamm's leadership. Hamm's son William joined the company in 1886. The annual output was already 40,000 barrels, which made the brewery the second largest brewery in Minnesota. The brewery was officially registered in 1896. Hamm died in St. Paul in 1903. He is buried in the Calvary Cemetery in St. Paul.

The Theodore Hamm Brewing Company expanded into the 1960s and was at times the eighth largest brewery in the United States. It was later sold by the Hamm family and changed hands several times.

The brewery in St. Paul has now been shut down, and Hamm beer is produced by MillerCoors .
