Theodoros II ( Theodoros Nikolaos Horeftakis , born November 25, 1954 in Koukounaria, Nomos Chania , Crete ) is the incumbent Greek Orthodox Patriarch of Alexandria with the official title of Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa .

biography

He was ordained a monk in 1973, a deacon in 1975 and a priest in 1978. After completing his theological studies at the University of Thessaloniki, he worked in Crete from 1975 to 1985 as Archdeacon and Chancellor of the Diocese of Lampi and Sfakia, based in Spili . From 1985 he represented the Patriarchate of Alexandria at the Russian Orthodox Church based in Odessa . In 1990 he was ordained Bishop of Cyrene and became envoy of the Patriarch of Alexandria to the Archbishop of Athens . In 1997 he was appointed Metropolitan of Cameroon and in 2002 Metropolitan of Zimbabwe .

He has been the Greek Orthodox Patriarch of Alexandria and All of Africa since October 24, 2004 .

In March 2017 he ordained six women as deacons in the Congo .
