South Tyrolean Castle Institute

The Trostburg (South Tyrolean Castle Museum) near Waidbruck is the seat of the South Tyrolean Castle Institute. The association has its office in Bolzano .

The Südtiroler Burgeninstitut (formerly: Südtiroler Burgenverein ) is a voluntary association that works to protect historical fortifications, castles, mansions and other historical residential buildings in South Tyrol . His tasks also include the maintenance of the association's own castles, the Trostburg as the South Tyrolean castle museum and Taufers Castle , as well as the Moos-Schulthaus residence that is under its administration .

The association was founded on October 5, 1963. In 1967 a Ges.mbH was founded to purchase Trostburg in the Eisack Valley ( Waidbruck ), which was donated to the South Tyrolean Castle Institute in 1981. In 1977 Taufers Castle in the Puster Valley ( Sand in Taufers ) was purchased. 1985–1990 Gandegg Castle in Eppan was rented and restored. In 1989 the "Südtiroler Burgeninstitut-Jugend" (Südtiroler Burgeninstitut-Jugend) was founded, in 1990 a scientific advisory board (active until 1999) and in 1991 the castle-related specialist library Trostburg (currently located in Bolzano and two branches in Trostburg and Taufers). In 1999 it was entered in the national directory of voluntary organizations. In 2005 the association opened the Trostburg Castle Museum in South Tyrol . In 2011 a cooperation with Thuringian Schlösserstraße was launched. The South Tyrolean Castle Institute has been managing the Walter Amonn Foundation with Moos-Schulthaus Castle and the Rose Garden Chapel in Appiano since 2013 . The association is also the editor of various publications, since 1979 of the journal “ARX. Castles and palaces in Bavaria, Austria and South Tyrol ”, the“ ARX series ”and, since 1996, the“ Castles ”series.
