The Theologische Verlagsgemeinschaft (TVG) is a publishing group of the Brunnen Verlag Gießen and the SCM R. Brockhaus Verlag, Witten , which belongs to the Christian Media Foundation .

history

The publishing association was founded on December 18, 1978 by the publishers Ulrich Brockhaus and Wilfried Jerke. Since until this time there was hardly any newer literature for evangelical students and theologians, it was the declared aim of the TVG to publish scientific literature from the spectrum of evangelical theology in order to support theological work. In the period that followed, numerous scientific series were started, such as the series “Theology and Service”, “Biblical Archeology and Contemporary History”, “TVG Classics”, the TVG monographs and the textbook series. The TVG has been publishing the yearbook for Evangelical Theology since 1987 , published by the Working Group for Evangelical Theology (AfeT) and the Working Group for Biblically Renewed Theology (AfbeT). The two publishers also jointly publish the scientific biblical commentary series “ Historical-Theological Interpretation ” (HTA), although the volumes do not bear the TVG logo.

Numerous academic books became so important that they were published in other languages by foreign publishers.

Since 1987, a literary prize, the € 1000 Johann Tobias Beck Prize , has been endowed annually together with the Working Group for Evangelical Theology .
