Theophanes III.
Theophanes III. (* around 1570 in Demetsana; † December 15, 1644 in Constantinople ) was Greek Orthodox Patriarch of Jerusalem from 1608 to 1644 .
Baptized in the name of Karakallos, nephew of the Patriarch Sophronios IV of Jerusalem, Patriarch Theophanes visited Moscow as agent of the Patriarch Timotheus of Constantinople in 1619/20 and there ordained Filaret Nikitich as Patriarch of Moscow on June 24, 1619 . In 1620/21 he stayed in Kiev , where he restored the Orthodox hierarchy of Ukraine, which had been completed by the Brest Church Union, by consecrating Iov Boretskyi as Metropolitan of Kiev and other bishops .
