Theophiel Coopman

Theophiel Coopman

Theophiel Coopman (born November 24, 1852 in Gent , †  June 4, 1915 in Schaerbeek / Schaarbeek ) was a Flemish poet.

Coopman attended the Royal Atheneum in Ghent and later entered the civil service. He was also active as a writer. He became involved in the Flemish cultural movement and became a member of the Royal Flemish Academy for Linguistics and Literature .

Coopman was married to Marie Dillens (* 1851). Their daughter Marguerite (1878–1959) married the architect Ernest Jaspar (1876–1940), a brother of the future Belgian Prime Minister Henri Jaspar .

In Schaarbeek a street is named after Theo Coopman.
