Theresa Concordia Maron , née Mengs (* 1725 in Aussig / Northern Bohemia, † October 10, 1806 in Rome ) was a German painter .

Life

Theresa Concordia Mengs was born as the daughter of the Saxon court painter Ismael Mengs . Like her brother Anton Raphael Mengs , she received her painting lessons from her father, a respected miniature painter of the time who portrayed many kings, members of the nobility and celebrities of his time. From 1741 she worked as a miniature and pastel painter in Rome. In 1765 she married the painter Anton von Maron (1731–1808), who had been a pupil and friend of her brother Anton Raphael since 1756 and worked as a portrait painter in Austria.

Theresa Mengs temporarily worked in the service of the Dresden court, where different versions of Santa Notte, St. Hieronymus and others were created. a. She painted in various techniques, both pastel and enamel and works in gouache .

In an exhibition in the Gothaer Schlossmuseum entitled Artists of the Goethe era , she was represented with paintings under her birth name Theresa Mengs.

criticism

The Staatliche Kunstsammlung Dresden wrote about her in a press release that she was "a lesser known artist who was nevertheless convincing due to the quality of her work".
