Theta Islands

The Theta Islands comprise several small islands and rocks in the Palmer Archipelago west of the Antarctic Peninsula . In the west of the group of Melchior Islands they are west of the Kappa Island .

Scientists from the British Discovery Investigations carried out an initial rough map in 1927. The name of the islands, which is borrowed from the Greek letter theta , can be found for the first time on maps from 1946, which were created in the course of surveying work by Argentine expeditions in 1942 and 1943. In Argentina they are also known as Islotes Alzogaray . It is named after Álvaro José de Alzogaray (1811–1879), commander under Admiral William Brown in the Argentine Navy.
