Thilo Ziegler (born August 6, 1937 in Burgheßler ; † October 25, 2015 in Lutherstadt Eisleben ) was a German local politician, miner and homeland researcher .

Life

Ziegler learned the mining trade in Eisleben from 1952 to 1955 . After the skilled worker examination, he did his military service. He then worked for 20 years in various positions in the VEB Mansfeldkombinat on the Thomas-Münzer-Schacht in Sangerhausen. In 1969 he earned his engineering degree in distance learning. In 1970 he moved to the city administration of Sangerhausen. Until 1972 he was a city councilor or deputy mayor. In 1978 Ziegler acquired a degree in engineering. In 1982 he was dismissed from the city administration without notice "for damaging the socialist state power". After 8 months of detention as a pump attendant underground on the Thomas-Müntzer-Schacht, he worked here as a driver until 1990. After the "Wende" he was from 1991 to 1997 technical director and operations manager of the visitor mine of the Rammelsberg mining museum in Goslar , where he managed the reconstruction of the Kanekuhler sweeper wheel and the construction of the mine train ride.

Ziegler was married and had four children.

Journalistic activity

In his spare time, Ziegler devoted himself since 1964 - and especially after reaching retirement age - to researching the mining history in the Mansfelder Land and in the Sangerhäuser Revier in the southern Harz. From 2009 until his death he was self-published in his hometown of Sangerhausen, the series The history of the Sangerhausen mining and ironworks from the beginnings to modern times , which was based largely on source studies and his own experience in the mining sector . He also devoted himself to researching the history of the Sangerhausen district during the Nazi era . With the works The History of the Sangerhausen Mining and Hüttenwerk and Under the Swastika: Outline of the History of the Sangerhausen District from 1933 to 1945 , he won the 2011 industrial history category at the Ur-Krostitzer Annual Ring . Shortly before his death, he was given the honor of being able to enter himself in the Golden Book of the city of Sangerhausen.

estate

While he was still alive, he ordered that his scientific legacy should be kept in the Saxony-Anhalt State Archives .
