Thom Peak

The Thom peak is 664  m high and prominent mountain on South Georgia in the South Atlantic . It rises north of Crean Lake at the western end of the Shackleton Valley in the Busen region .

The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it in 2013. It is named after the Norwegian whaling captain Ingvar Thom, who with the Southern Sky on May 23, 1916 made the first attempt to rescue the participants of the Endurance Expedition (1914–1917) stranded on Elephant Island British polar explorer Ernest Shackleton had undertaken.
