The Thomas flying squirrel ( Aeromys thomasi ) is a species of squirrel from the genus of the black flying squirrel ( Aeromys ). The species name refers to the English zoologist Oldfield Thomas .

features

Females of the Thomas flying squirrel reach a head-torso length of 343.3 mm, a tail length of 410 mm and a weight of 1117 g. In the males, a head-trunk length of 300 mm and a tail length of 370 mm were measured. The species is larger than its closest relative, the black flying squirrel ( Aeromys tephromelas ), but similar in color. The coat color is a single color, dark brown or black.

distribution

The Thomas flying squirrel occurs on most of the island of Borneo , except in the southeast.

habitat

The Thomas Gleithörnchen lives in lowland forests as well as forests in the middle altitudes of the mountain regions.

Way of life

The species is a nocturnal fruit eater . No more is known about their way of life.

status

The IUCN classifies the Thomas-Gleithörnchen in the category "insufficient data situation" ( data deficient ). Although there is no reliable information on the population, it is likely to be threatened by habitat loss.
