Rolf Boldrewood
Thomas Alexander Browne , actually Thomas Alexander Browne (* 6. August 1826 in London , † 11. March 1915 in Melbourne ) was an Australian writer . He also appeared as squatters and official in the public service in appearance.
His most famous novel was Robbery under Arms . At the beginning of this novel, the narrator Dick Marsden awaits his execution , with which he is to be punished for crimes of his time as a ranger in the Australian bush. He tells the story of his life and love affairs and tells of his connection with Harry Redford , aka the infamous Captain Starlight. Some of the heroics are based on real events involving real people Daniel Morgan, Ben Hall, Frank Gardiner, and John Gilbert.
This so-called “ripping yarn” has remained popular in Australia since it was first published in book form in 1888 and has been filmed three times and broadcast as a series on the radio.
