Thomas Anderson

Thomas Anderson (born February 26, 1832 in Edinburgh , † October 26, 1870 ibid) was a Scottish botanist . Its official botanical author's abbreviation is " T.Anderson "; earlier the abbreviation “ T. Anders. " in use.

Anderson worked as a surgeon in India . From 1860 to 1868 he was director of the Calcutta Botanical Garden. He was also the first " Conservator of Forests " in Bengal , where he also collected plants. In 1861 he undertook a collecting trip to Java and the Malay Peninsula .

In 1868 he returned to Scotland sick and devoted himself to work on the Acanthus family (Acanthaceae). Anderson died in Edinburgh in 1870.
