Thomas Anton Wickart

Thomas Anton Wickart (born May 12, 1798 in Zug ; † May 22, 1876 ibid) was a Swiss landscape painter .

life and work

Wickart was Catholic and came from Zug. He was the son of Helena Uttinger and the councilor and trader Paul Anton Wickart. In 1837 he married Anna Maria Weiss, daughter of the host Adam Weiss. Wickert trained as a landscape painter in Bern . He then garde in Paris at the court King Charles X . After his fall and the dissolution of the Swiss Guard, Wickart returned to Zug in 1830. He worked as a drawing teacher at the city school, later at the grammar school. From 1832 he belonged to the Luke Brotherhood . Wickart mainly painted small-format landscapes and views of the city and the canton of Zug using the watercolor technique . The city of Zug, the community and private individuals own works by him.
