Thomas Betzwieser

Thomas Ludwig Betzwieser (born March 23, 1958 in Neckarhausen near Mannheim ) is a German musicologist and opera researcher .

Career

Betzwieser studied musicology, German literature and philosophy at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg , where he received his doctorate in 1989. From 1990 to 1994 he was research assistant to Jürgen Maehder at the Institute for Musicology at the Free University of Berlin . 1995–1996 he received a scholarship from the DAAD, Maison des Sciences de l'Homme , Paris, and from 1996–1998 he received a research grant from the German Research Foundation . 1999–2001 he was a lecturer in music at the University of Southampton . In 2000 he completed his habilitation at the Free University of Berlin. From 2001 to 2012 Betzwieser was Professor of Musicology at the University of Bayreuth . Since 2012 he has been Professor of Musicology at the Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main .

He is a member or expert in project commissions of the Heidelberg Academy of Sciences and the Mainz Academy of Sciences and Literature (member 2015); Member of the editorial board of the Gluck complete edition; Co-editor of Perspectives on Opera Research .

Betzwieser is also the project manager of OPERA - spectrum of European music theater in individual editions .
