Thomas Burgener

Thomas Burgener (born August 11, 1954 in Visp ; legal resident there ) is a Swiss politician ( SP ).

Career

Burgener studied at the University of Freiburg Law and made his 1980 Notary Diploma 1981 his lawyer diploma . Afterwards he worked in a law office in Visp.

He began his political career in 1985 in the Visp municipal council , where he was President of the Social Services and Apprenticeship Commission and a member of the Building and Planning Commission. In 1997 he became Vice President of Visp and President of the Primary School Commission . In addition, he was a member of the Grand Council of the Canton of Valais from 1989 to 1997 , where he acted as parliamentary group leader of the SP Upper Valais. In 1997 he joined the National Council for two years . There he was a member of the Commission for Transport and Communication and the Security Policy Commission. In May 1999 he was elected to the State Council of the Canton of Valais, where he headed the Department of Health, Social Affairs and Energy until his resignation in 2009. He is also on the board of the Alpine Initiative Association .

Burgener is married, has two children and lives in Visp.
