Thomas Byrne (politician)

Thomas Byrne ( Irish Tomás Ó Broin ; * November 7, 1917 , † March 16, 1978 ) was an Irish politician and sat from 1952 to 1961 in the Dáil Éireann , the lower house of the Irish Parliament .

Thomas Byrne was born the son of the Irish politician Alfred Byrne and his wife Elizabeth. In 1952, Byrne was elected as an independent candidate in the November 12th by-elections in the 14th Dáil Éireann and re-occupied the vacant seat of his late brother Alfred P. Byrne . After two successful re-elections in 1954 and 1957, he lost his mandate in 1961 in the elections for the 16th Dáil Éireann.

Byrne had a total of seven siblings. His two brothers Alfred and Patrick were also members of the Dáil Éireann.
