Thomas Friedrich (philosopher)

Thomas Friedrich (* 1959 ) is a German philosopher and design scientist.

Life

After studying graphic design (diploma in the design department of the Würzburg-Schweinfurt University of Applied Sciences) and then philosophy , political science and folklore (doctorate in philosophy at the University of Würzburg), he began teaching at the design department of the Würzburg-Schweinfurt University of Applied Sciences appointed university lecturer for the history and theory of visual communication at the faculty of design at the Bauhaus -Universität Weimar.

Friedrich has been Professor of Philosophy and Design Theory at the Faculty of Design at the Mannheim University of Applied Sciences since March 2000 . There he heads the Institute for Design Science. Together with Gerhard Schweppenhäuser, he publishes the book series “Aesthetics and Cultural Philosophy” at LIT Verlag (Münster, London).

Since 2002 he has been editor of the “Zeitschrift für Kritische Theory” (zu Klampen, Springe). He is a founding member of the "German Society for Design Theory and Research", a member of the reading society "Other Library", appointed member of the "Free Academy of the Arts Mannheim" and head of the design section of the "German Society for Semiotics e. V. "
