Thomas Irvin Garrigus (born November 9, 1946 in Hillsboro , † December 29, 2006 in Plains ) was an American sports marksman .

successes

Thomas Garrigus took part in the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico City , where he scored 196 points in the trap . He was tied with Kurt Czekalla and Pāvels Seničevs , so there was a playoff . In the first round of the jump-off, Garrigus and Czekalla hit all 25 goals, while Seničevs was eliminated with 23 hits. In the second round Garrigus did not miss a shot, while Czekalla had to accept two misses this time. Garrigus came second and received the silver medal. At world championships he secured silver in the team competition in 1969 in San Sebastián .

Between 1962 and 1982 Garrigus won 27 national titles. At the 1996 Olympic Games , he acted as a referee in the trap and skeet competitions. From 1992 to 2002 he was the national coach of the US sport shooters, and he was director of several shooting clubs for many years. His son Robert Garrigus became a professional golf player.
