Thomas Geraldino (* baptized on October 8, 1682 in Jerez de la Frontera ; † in mid-June 1755 there ) was Philip V's ambassador to George II from 1731 to 1739 .

Life

Thomas Geraldino was a diplomat, politician, and entrepreneur. His ancestors came from Ireland.

His parents Isabel de Vargas Croquer and Jorge Fitzgerald married in 1681. In 1703 he married Michelle Barreda Lopez. Their children were named Teresa, Francisco, Miguel José and Josefa. He was chairman of the Hijosdalgos de Jerez (the Cabildos of the Nobles), nominated by the orders of Santiago, Calatrava and Alcántara.

From 1732 he had power of attorney at the Asiento de Negros of the Spanish crown. and was Plenipotentiary Ambassador to the Spanish Crown in London from 1735 to 1739. He was a member of the London- based Court of Directors of the South Sea Company . He later performed under the name Sir Thomas Fitzgerald . The Jerez liquor industry claims that he was the source of sherry sales during his tenure at the British court . In 1742 he was appointed to the Supremo Consejo de Indias .

He was buried in the capilla de Las Angustias in Jerez, which was under the patronage of another member of the Geraldino family.
