Cristóbal Gregorio VI. Portocarrero Osorio Villalpando y Guzmán
Cristóbal Gregorio VI. Portocarrero Osorio Villalpando y Guzmán (born June 2, 1693 in Montijo (Badajoz) ; † June 15, 1763 ibid) was Philip V of Spain's ambassador to George II of Great Britain from 1731 to 1736 .
Life
His parents were María Regalada de Villalpando, 4th Marquesa de Osera, the third wife of his father, 4th Conde de Montijo (October 27 to December 6, 1697).
He married in the municipality of San Martin in Madrid on March 15, 1717 María Dominga Francisca Zaviera Ignacia Josefa Teresa Luisa Fausta Antonia Fernández de Córdoba y Portocarrero (born March 9, 1693 in Madrid-1747), lady in waiting of Elisabetta Farnese and Maria Barbara de Bragança , Daughter of a former canon.
From 1731 to 1735 he was Philip V's ambassador to George II.
When Patrick Laules (1676–1739) from Kilkenny was appointed Spanish ambassador to Holland, the Dutch ambassador in London was surprised at Portocarrero and asked if he was an Irishman. Portocarrero heard disdain and replied that he did not know and reported on the good qualities of Laules.
The Minister of Finance, War, Navy and American Colonies, José Patiño, appointed Tomás Geraldino to represent the Spanish Crown in the South Sea Company . When José Patiño died on November 3, 1736, his post was taken over by marqués de Torrenueva and Tomás Geraldino took over the post of ambassador in London and Pedro Tyrry was the supreme slave trader of the Spanish Crown with the South Sea Company.
In 1741 he was with José de Carvajal y Lancaster , envoy to the Perpetual Reichstag in Frankfurt am Main . Since Charles VI. died on October 20, 1740, was at the Diet on January 24, 1742 in Frankfurt am Main , Charles VII. to the Roman-German king chosen .
