Thomas Harrington

Sir Thomas Harrington of Hornby ( 1400 - December 30, 1460 ) was an English knight .

Life

Sir Thomas Harrington was an English knight and soldier who fought in the Hundred Years' War and the Wars of the Roses . His career began in 1436 in the English army in Picardy , France.

Sir Thomas was part of the legation that Margaret of Anjou came to England in 1445 for her marriage to Henry VI. accompanied. In 1447 Sir Thomas was Member of Parliament for the County of Lancaster (Lancashire) as Esquire from Thomas Stanley, 1st Baron Stanley , received the accolade in 1449 and in 1451 sat again in Parliament as Sir Thomas.

During the riots in northern England in 1454/55, Sir Thomas and Thomas Stanley, 1st Baron Stanley, were commissioned to arrest the perpetrators, including Henry Holland, 3rd Duke of Exeter .

In May 1455 Sir Thomas fought for the House of York at the First Battle of St Albans. In the same year he was called to Parliament as representative of Yorkshire and was High Sheriff of Yorkshire in 1455/56 .

Sir Thomas was very closely associated with Richard Neville, 5th Earl of Salisbury and fought alongside him in 1459 at the Battle of Blore Heath for York. Together with John Neville, 1st Marquess of Montagu and Sir Thomas Neville, the two younger sons of the Earl of Salisbury, Sir Thomas Harrington had to flee Blore Heath. However, the three were tracked down the following day and imprisoned at Chester Castle for nine months .

On December 30, 1460, Sir Thomas fell at the Battle of Wakefield .
