Thomas Klitgaard (born December 10, 1977 in Aalborg , Denmark ) is a former Danish handball player . He is 1.95 m tall and weighs 100 kg.

He was mostly used as a circuit runner, played for the Danish club Skjern Håndbold and ran for the Danish national team .

Career

Thomas Klitgaard started playing handball at Nøvling IF near Aalborg. He later moved to Vadum Aalborg HSH , for whom he also made his debut in the Danish first division. In 2002 he moved to CBM Gáldar on the island of Gran Canaria . When the Spanish second division side filed for bankruptcy in 2003, Klitgaard returned to Denmark and joined Skjern Håndbold . In 2005 he went back to his old club from Aalborg, which had since changed its name to AaB Håndbold . In 2007 he moved to MT Melsungen in the German handball Bundesliga . In 2010 Klitgaard announced that he would not use the option of his contract in Melsungen, which ran until 2010, and that he would move back to Skjern Håndbold in Denmark. He won the Danish Cup with Skjern in the 2013/14 and 2015/16 seasons. He ended his career after the 2016/17 season. He has been an assistant trainer at Skjern Håndbold since February 2020.

Klitgaard has played an international match for the Danish national team .
