Thomas Krings

Thomas Krings (born November 1, 1949 in Lörrach ) is a German geographer . He was professor for cultural geography at the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg .

Life

Thomas Krings studied in Berlin from 1982. He was at the University of Hamburg with a kulturgeografischen work on nomads in the Sahel doctorate . He came to the University of Freiburg in 1990. Krings' work and research topics include above all geographic development research , with a focus on rural and nomadic knowledge as development potential; in addition, combating desertification in the western Sahel. Another topic is the cotton (trade) sector in Mali , which is being studied under the unequal conditions of world trade. Krings also deals with regional development in West Africa in general. Theoretically, he deals with conceptual questions of Third World and First World Political Ecology .
