The Thomas Mountains are a separated and 8 km long group of mountains not far from the Orville coast in the west Antarctic Ellsworthland . They tower 15 miles northeast of Mount Horne .

They were discovered during the US Ronne Antarctic Research Expedition (1947–1948). Expedition leader Finn Ronne named it after the journalist and radio presenter Lowell Thomas (1892–1981), who supported the research trip .
