Thomas Myrtek (born December 28, 1888 in Beuthen , Upper Silesia, † September 5, 1935 in Athens , Greece) was a German sculptor . Myrtek was a member of the group in 1922 and the Silesian Artists' Union . His works made of various materials also included sculptures made by coal miners, which were presented in exhibitions and museums.

Life

Myrtek studied at the Royal Art and Trade School in Breslau with the sculptors Albert Werner-Schwarzburg (1857-1911) and Theodor von Gosen . He began his work as a sculptor after the First World War. In 1932 he became chairman of the Silesian Artists' Union. In 1934 he was awarded the Rome Prize (Grand State Prize of the Prussian Academy of the Arts). Myrtek died in 1935 while traveling through Greece.

In 1922, Myrtek designed the building sculpture on the portal of the administration building of the Upper Silesian Lime Works in Opole. In 1924 he created concrete girl figures on the facade of the commercial school in Bytom. In 1927 Myrtek designed bronze statuettes for the Friedrich-Ebert-Schule in (Breslau-) Zimpel.
