Thomas Pfeffer (marksman)

Thomas Pfeffer (born September 15, 1957 in Sachsenbrunn ) is a former German sports shooter . In 1980 he won the Olympic silver medal in shooting at the running target .

Pfeffer started shooting in 1973 and started in 1974 for the GST shooting club in Suhl. In 1975 he won the Spartakiad . At the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal , pepper scored 571 rings and had the same number of hits as the Pole Jerzy Greszkiewicz ; Pfeffer only missed the bronze medal because of the poorer hit pattern in the last round.

In 1977, Pfeffer won the GDR championship as well as the European championship in Bucharest. At the European Championships in 1978, which was held on his home shooting range in Suhl, Pfeffer defended the title; In 1979 he won the bronze medal at the European Championships. In 1980 in Moscow , Pfeffer and Igor Sokolow from the Soviet Union set a new world record with 589 rings, Sokolow received the Olympic gold medal because of the better result in the last round. In 1981 Sokolow won the European Championships in front of Pfeffer, Pfeffer won the 1981 World Championships in Buenos Aires, while Sokolow was only fourth. When he took part in the Olympics for the third time in 1988 in Seoul , Pfeffer just missed making it to the last four shooters.

Thomas Pfeffer is a trained hunting gun mechanic. He is a board member of the Haselgrund shooting guild in Suhl- Wichtshausen .
