Thomas Prügl

Thomas Prügl (* 1963 ) is a German Catholic theologian . He is professor for church history at the University of Vienna ; his main research interests concern the Middle Ages .

Live and act

1982-1989 Catholic theology he studied at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich , where he developed the licentiate in 1988 in Catholic theology and 1994 promotion to Dr. theol. acquired. He studied abroad in 1984/1985 at the Pontificia Università Gregoriana in Rome . From 1991 to 2000 he was a research assistant and research assistant at the Grabmann Institute for Research into Medieval Theology and Philosophy at LMU Munich. From 2001 to 2004 Prügl was Assistant Professor for Historical Theology at the University of Notre Dame , from 2004 to 2008 Associate Professor for Historical Theology and Tisch Family Collegiate Chair at the same university . In addition, he was Acting Director of the Medieval Institute of Notre Dame in 2005/2006 . Since 2008 he has been researching and teaching as a university professor for church history at the Catholic Theological Faculty of the University of Vienna .

His fields of research are church history and ecclesiology of the Middle Ages, the councils of Constance and Basel, the history of the interpretation of scriptures in the Middle Ages, the history of the Dominican order , its members and institutions, and the history of medieval studies .
