La Paloma is a German television film by Markus Imboden from 2009. It is the 43rd episode of the crime series A strong team with Maja Maranow and Florian Martens in the leading roles. For team member Yüksel Yüzgüler it is the last episode as he is killed in the course of the story.

action

An electric shock from a hair dryer lying in the water kills the family man Martin Kirchner in the bathtub. Whether it is an accident, murder or suicide is not yet clear and must be determined by the investigative team around Verena Berthold and Otto Garber.

When questioned, the victim's wife assumes that it was a suicide because her husband suffered from depression and the family-owned shipping company had to file for bankruptcy. The questioning of the dead brother's brother shortly afterwards raises doubts about the suicide theory, since the surviving brother hated the other. However, no direct connection to the crime can be found.

In the further course, the investigators find out that the wife was having an affair with a married man, which adds two people to the group of suspects. In contrast to his usual behavior, Yüksel Yüzgüler from the investigative team is careless: He makes mistakes, is not focused and sometimes does not appear on duty. This is due to the fact that he has a close love affair with Milena Kirchner, which he successfully concealed from his colleagues for a long time and which influences the investigation in this sense.

One day when he does not show up for duty again and does not respond at all to calls from his colleagues, Otto Garber comes to see him. But there is no reaction to the doorbell, so Garber calls Verena Berthold for help and she forcibly enters Yüzgüler's apartment. There they make a terrible discovery, because their colleague is shot dead on his bed. Here too, suicide is initially assumed, which forensics can quickly rule out. The investigators are faced with a riddle, they can now find the connection to Milena Kirchner, but this does not help them in solving the case.

Team boss Reddemann is involved in the investigation due to the explosive nature of the case and is able to track down a young man who recently threatened Yüzgüler massively. However, he swears that he struck only once and not murdered him. Although he wanted to visit him again, Yüzguler did not open the door, but he did meet a young woman in the stairwell. The description leads to the drug addict Isa Habner, who does cleaning work for the Kirchners in order to earn some money. Habner is interrogated and admits that she urgently needed money, and since she had tried in vain to blackmail Milena Kirchner, she now wanted to stick with her boyfriend. She noticed that he had not told the police the truth and hoped that he would pay her for her silence. Then she just went crazy and took the gun and just pulled the trigger.

When Milena Kirchner learns that her lover, for whom she was planning to leave her husband, is dead, she breaks in too. Her husband has threatened to kill himself several times if she wanted to leave him. That evening it was enough for her and she threw the hairdryer into the bathtub for him, which her husband had switched on himself.

criticism

Tilmann P. Gangloff from tittelbach.tv said: “Even after 15 years, the ZDF series 'Ein starkes Team' can sometimes surprise: Katrin Bühlig's 'La Paloma' is an exceptional episode in the series. This breaks with conventions: Yüksel, the always loyal colleague, played by Tayfun Bademsoy, behaves strangely and falls into the twilight. Melancholy lies in the pictures of director Markus Imboden. Even a Schlager duet fits wonderfully into the atmospheric picture! "

On Quotenmeter.de states: "The new edition of 'A strong team' shines less about plot than by their pleasing successful framework. […] But unfortunately every trace leads directly to the goal and the viewer quickly deciphered the circumstances surrounding Martin Kirchner's mysterious passing. The plantings make sense throughout, but are set far too unsubtle. Unfortunately there is no gripping tension. "

The critics of the television magazine TV Spielfilm gave a raised thumb as the best rating and summed up their impression with the verdict “Grippingly constructed case with good figures”.
