Thomas Prinz (* 1957 in Wuppertal ) was the full-time elected mayor of the Lower Saxony city of Laatzen from 2006 to 2014 . He is a member of the SPD .

Life

After graduating from high school in Wuppertal , Prinz studied law at the University of Munich . In 1982 he passed the first state examination in law. This was followed by a legal traineeship at the Munich Higher Regional Court and a supplementary course in administrative science at the University of Administrative Sciences Speyer. His second state examination in law was followed by studies at the Federal Finance Academy from 1985 to 1986 . Between 1985 and 1990 he completed an apprenticeship for the higher service of the tax administration at the tax offices Starnberg and Braunschweig-Altewiekring and worked at the tax office Gifhorn and as deputy head of the tax office in Peine . In 1990, Prinz went to the Lower Saxony Ministry of Finance , where he worked as an advisor to the minister and from 1992 as head of the ministerial office. In 1997/98 he was head of the department for municipal finances, cabinet and parliamentary matters and other areas. Thomas Prinz has been working as a manager and bank director at the Lower Saxony state trust agency since 1999. In 2000 he was admitted to the bar. In 2006 Thomas Prinz was elected Mayor of Laatzen with 58.5% of the votes in the local elections in 2006. In the mayoral election in 2014, he was defeated by the CDU applicant Jürgen Köhne with 34.5% of the vote. His term of office ended on October 31, 2014.

Since 2003 he has been a member of the board of the SPD department. Laatzen center. From 2004 to 2009 he was an advisory member of the board of the SPD district of Hanover.

From 1976 to 1985 he was a member of the International Student Club Munich e. V., its president from 1982. Prinz has been a member of the Kestnergesellschaft Hannover since 1989 . Thomas Prinz is a founding member of the Lions Club Hannover-Expo, founded on January 20, 2010 in Laatzen .
