Thomas Rees (sculptor)
Thomas Rees (born September 20, 1959 in Kappel ) is a German sculptor from Kappel , a district of Freiburg im Breisgau .
Most of his sculptures are in the great outdoors. After experimenting with different materials, wood has become his expressive material. His works made from trees are particularly important to him, as the trees all have a story. The works are mostly created in the open air and result from the moment and the mood. His work lives from spontaneity and not from planning, so there are only a few drafts and sketches. He then leaves his works to nature so that they change as the seasons change. This desired process is programmatic for him.
Rees is married with two children. His main job is in industry.
On New Year's Eve 2016, the 10-year-old sculpture The Court Oak on the Kastelberg in Ballrechte-Dottingen was badly damaged by an arson attack.
