Thomas James Ridgewell (born June 27, 1990 in Essex , United Kingdom ) is a British comedian and YouTuber , best known for the animated web video series asdfmovie and Eddsworld and for his YouTube channel TomSka .

Life

Ridgewell began making short films with his parents' video camera as a child . He published the resulting videos together with his friends Chris Bingham and Edd Gould on the now deleted website , CakeBomb .

While graduating from the University of Lincoln (UK) , he produced a number of unofficial promotional videos for the university. Published on his YouTube channel, they reach several million views.

His upbringing taught him the faith of Jehovah's Witnesses . Although he stopped practicing this belief , he revealed his hope for a higher power.

As a full-time YouTuber, Ridgewell makes money from the advertising revenue from his videos on the website. In this context he was discussed and interviewed particularly frequently, especially when the medium of online videos was still in its infancy.

In 2008, Ridgewell released the first series of asdfmovies . asdfmovies are an animated comedy series, consisting of very short video clips , which show sketched characters in bizarre situations. The style can be described as black humor . Twelve episodes have been released by August 30, 2019.

In 2012 he took over the production of Eddsworld after the original creator and friend Edd Gould died of leukemia . In 2016 he stopped participating and handed the task over to Edd's family.

In January 2015, Ridgewell started the Internet cartoon Crash Zoom on his YouTube channel TomSka. The cartoon is animated by Ben "Wonchop" Smallman, who previously animated some of the asdfmovie episodes. Crash Zoom deals with the experiences of the three young characters Lucy, Ben and Kate in their surreal exploits.

Appearances

He was a guest on BBC 's The One Show and has appeared several times as a radio and television guest . Ridgewell was featured in the first "Comedy Week" hosted by YouTube in 2013.

It featured on the cover of Wired UK in February 2013 as part of How YouTube Reinvented the Entertainment Business and was guest hosted by YouTube for its Geek Week series in August.

He was invited as a guest presenter on the BBC Radio 1 show Dan and Phil in September 2014.

Ridgewell spoke on stage at MCM London Comic Con 2014.

other projects

In collaboration with Pixel Spill , Ridgewell created the game KatataK in 2014 , a side-scrolling beat 'em up for iOS and Android devices .

Together with the animator Matt Ley he created Art Is Dead in 2015 , a comic based on his asdfmovie series.
