Thomas Saalfeld

Thomas Saalfeld (* 1960 ) is a German parliamentary , representation and coalition researcher who, as a professor, holds the chair for comparative political science at the Otto Friedrich University in Bamberg . He is also the spokesman for the Bamberg Graduate School of Social Sciences (BAGSS), liaison professor of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom and Managing Editor of the political science journal “German Politics”.

biography

After studying political science , modern history and communication science at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (LMU) (1980–1983 and 1984–1987) and the University of Hull (1983–1984), he was a research assistant at the from 1987 to 1991 University of the Federal Armed Forces Munich . From 1992 to 1993 Thomas Saalfeld was a lecturer in political science at the University of Hull , before he received his doctorate (Dr. phil.) From the LMU in 1993. After completing his dissertation, he worked as a research assistant at the Institute for Sociology (Macrosociology) at the Technical University of Dresden from 1993 to 1995 .

Between 1996 and 2009 he was a Lecturer, Senior Lecturer, Reader and finally Professor in Political Science at the University of Kent at Canterbury . During this time, a one-semester substitute chair in political science at the University of Mannheim fell in 2008 . Since 2009 he has held the professorship for comparative political science at the Otto-Friedrich-Universität Bamberg.

Thomas Saalfeld is spokesman for the Bamberg Graduate School of Social Sciences (BAGSS), which is funded as part of the Excellence Initiative, liaison lecturer of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom at the University of Bamberg and managing editor of the political science journal German Politics .
