Thomas Simey, Baron Simey

Thomas Spensley Simey, Baron Simey (born November 25, 1906 , † December 27, 1969 ) was a British lawyer , sociologist , university professor and politician who became a member of the House of Lords in 1965 as a life peer under the Life Peerages Act 1958 .

Life

Simey, son of Solicitors George Iliff Simey, who from 1905 to 1927 member of the Council of the County of Somerset , was completed after school to study at Balliol College of Oxford University , which he in 1928 with a Bachelor of Arts (BA) completed. Subsequent further studies at Balliol College, he finished in 1931 with a Master of Arts (MA) and then took up a job as a solicitor like his father and older brother William Spensley Simey.

Shortly thereafter, Simey was first lecturer in administrative sciences at the University of Liverpool in 1931 , before he took over a professorship in social sciences at the University of Liverpool in 1939 and taught there until his death in 1969. As a university lecturer, Simey, who was a member of the British Sociological Association , mainly dealt with socio-political issues.

By letters patent dated May 12, 1965, he was raised to the nobility due to the Life Peerages Act 1958 as a life peer with the title Baron Simey , of Toxteth in the County Palatine of Lancaster, and thus belonged to the House of Lords until his death as a member.
