British Sociological Association

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The British Sociological Association (BSA) is the professional society of British sociologists.

Since sociology in the UK was long overshadowed by social anthropology , the professional society was founded relatively late, in 1951 , on the initiative of several university professors. Its goals are to promote sociology, support sociologists and represent sociology to the UK public.

The BSA publishes the journal Sociology , a bimonthly periodical for general sociology, as well as the journals Cultural Sociology and Work, Employment and Society devoted to more specific topics .

Among its 40 different study groups , one of the strongest and most active is the medical-sociological BSA Medical Sociology .
