Thomas Singer (born February 21, 1989 ) is a former Swiss ski racer . He won a downhill in the European Cup .

Career

Singer attended the sports high school in Davos , which he graduated with the Matura in 2009. He contested his first FIS races in December 2004. First he achieved his best results in slalom and giant slalom, and in November 2007 he stood on the winners' podium for the first time. In February 2008 he took part in the Junior World Championship in Formigal . Singer only started in the slalom, but was eliminated in the first round. In the fast downhill and super-G disciplines, he achieved increasingly better results and on December 19, 2008 he celebrated his first victory in an FIS race in the super combined in Davos. A month later he became Swiss junior champion in the super combined and super G. In the general class he reached two fourth places in these disciplines at the Swiss championships in 2009 .

From March 2009 Singer started in the European Cup . After not finishing in the top 30 in the first races, he got his first European Cup points on January 7, 2010 when he surprisingly won the downhill run on the Lauberhorn in Wengen . A few days later, however, the 2009/2010 season was over for the then 20-year-old Swiss: he suffered a cruciate ligament rupture in his right knee while training for the European Cup descent on Patscherkofel . In the 2010/2011 season , Singer was among the top ten in two European Cup races and achieved two third places in Downhill and Super-G at the Swiss Championships . In June 2011 Singer announced his retirement from active ski racing.
