Thomas Tennhardt

Thomas Tennhardt is a German biologist and landscape planner. Since 2010 he has been head of the international department at the Naturschutzbund Deutschland (NABU) . From 2013 to 2019 he was one of the three Vice Presidents of NABU. From 2010 to 2019 he was full-time chairman of the NABU International Foundation .

In 1990 Tenhardt was the founding chairman of what is now the regional association of NABU in East Berlin . He was also the office manager of Josef Göppel . He has been a member of the German Bundestag since 2002 and chairman of the CDU / CSU parliamentary group in the Committee on the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety .

As a scientific assistant, Tennhardt supported the first chair for international nature conservation in Germany at the University of Greifswald . Thomas Tennhardt is a founding member of the East German environmental network Green League , which he also represented at the Berlin Round Table.

Tennhardt knows the natural areas of Eastern Europe , the Russian Federation , the Caucasus and Central Asia through many trips and has managed nature conservation projects there. He provided significant support for the designation of UNESCO biosphere reserves and world heritage areas. From 2004 to 2008 he represented NABU on the European board of Birdlife International.

He is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Michael Succow Foundation and the German Landscapes Foundation .
