Thomas Trachsel

Thomas Trachsel received his first musical lessons on the zither at the age of eight . He then took lessons at the Hägendorf music school on the instruments trumpet and piano, as well as theory with Arno Müller privately. After completing an apprenticeship, Trachsel completed his studies in wind orchestra conductor at the Bern University of Music and graduated in 1998. In 1999 he resumed his studies in conducting , organ and percussion at the Bern University of Applied Sciences and graduated with honors. He also attended a master class with Andreas Spörri. Thomas Trachsel works as a conductor and guest conductor of various wind orchestras and brass bands as well as a teacher for music theory and music history . He also works as an expert at competitions and music festivals.

Thomas Trachsel is a freelance composer and wrote a. a. Commissioned works for the Federal Music Festival and the National Youth Brass Band. His catalog raisonné contains more than 100 works for various instrumentations. The musical language in his works is based on the late romantic tradition, mixed with contemporary elements. Typical of his style are sentences and themes with a melancholy effect, large-scale arcs of tension, powerful bursts of sound and the extremely demanding type of orchestration. Thematically, he deals mostly with the current problems of mankind. The question of 'being' or not 'being' usually plays a central role. His 2nd symphony was written in this context.

On February 10, 2007, his 1st Symphony for wind orchestra was premiered by the Stadtharmonie Zürich Oerlikon-Seebach, conducted by Carlo Balmelli, in the Tonhalle Zürich . The performances of this work by the Stadtharmonie Zürich Oerlikon-Seebach at Mid Europe in Schladming (Austria) and the world-famous wind orchestra La banda Sinfónica de la sociedad musical La Artística Buñol, Direction Henrie Adams, in Spain brought Thomas Trachsel great recognition as a composer.

Thomas Trachsel also gives music lessons at the regional school in Gäu.
